Troy Built is at the West end of the Kokopelli Trail Area. Its easiest to access it from the Mack exit. This trail is best done in conjunction with a few other loops. We combined it with parts of Lyons Loop and Mack Ridge. This made for a great combination of rocky, technical singletrack, and a long, epic ride. Julian loved it as much as I did. I should qualify that... there are some of the technical sections that Julian HATED!!! I was so bonked at the end of the ride that there were some sections that I HATED!!! It all balanced out.
One of the best things about this ride is that it is photogenic. It starts with some good climbs and lets you enjoy seeing your friend ride off into the sunrise.
There was a section that I loved, where I could stand on the ridge and watch Julian riding down to the right, following the trail as it snaked below. I know it is hard to see with web resolution, but hopefully you'll get a little idea of how great this section is.
At the far side of the river in the photo above, you can see the beginning of the Kokopelli trail that leads from Fruita all the way to Moab, Utah.
The trail skirts the valley that feeds into the Colorado River. That makes for some very beautiful photos.
Once you round the ridge and turn East, the trail begins to go up hill. This is the climb that got a few swear words out of Julian's mouth. I was too far behind him to photograph his climb.
This trail climbs out and connects up with Lyons Loop. We took the small section of Lyon's Loop until hit hit the top of the ridge and connected up with Mack Ridge. That made for a dramatic climb and an even better descent!
