Zippidy Doodah is the fun stuff. You get to it by riding past the Joe's Ridge turn off on Front Side. This trail is not for the faint of heart. There are some steep drops and some steep climbs. If you're unsure of your abilities and bravery, then try Joe's Ridge first. If you like that and want more, come back for Zippity. Walking down the steep parts really tears up the trail for those who want to ride it. I'll explain more later.
You can see that this drop is pretty wide compared to the single track found on Joe's Ridge. Part of the reason for that is that people walk down this trail. They also have a tendency to steer around the braking bumps. The bumps are the fun part! Ride over them and keep the trail narrow. I honestly think that drops like this are easier to ride than they are to walk. Use some good technique and you'll love these trails as much as I do.
This drop doesn't look so bad. The top part isn't. You can see the run out on the far side. The trail splits at the trough at the bottom of this first drop. Part of it goes straight up the hill, then drops off to the left. The other skirts the ridge down the left for a very challenging descent.
You can see a guy walking down the right side of the drop. This side was really tough when I rode it. Too many people had walked down the trail. The hardpack section was only about 6" wide and it was the part closest to the point where the ridge dropped away. There was a rut that followed the trail where people had walked. It was 6" deep in sand and would have caused a crash for sure if your front tire dipped into it.
Zippidy Doodah is a fun trail that can be quite challenging. It is obvious
that some people have been intimidated by it. Part of that is the reputation.
The other part comes from the extra challenge of riding over sections that
people have hiked down. If you've got the technique, its easier to ride than
it is to walk. That is especially true because gravity does a lot of the work.
